Online Clicks Climb in Africa
Internet usage is growing at a more rapid pace in Africa than any other region worldwide. A recent clickz.com report cites innovative technologies that allow access in smaller cities and rural areas. Current Internet users throughout African countries now total 23.5 million according the CIA’s “World Factbook,” which also points out that 2.5 percent of African residents (now totaling over 900 million) are online—a 400 percent increase since 2000.
Egypt, South Africa, Morocco and Kenya host the largest population of Internet users while Sierra Leon, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea and Comoros provide the smallest number of online participants. Related reports cite that actual Internet users in Africa may be slightly higher, thanks to multi-person access points like cyber cafes.
